Reserve "Old fortress Saint-Donaas"

This reserve has been set in what remained of the old fortress of Saint-Donaas.  This fort was built in the beginning of the 17th century and was largely destroyed when the Damse Vaart was dug straight through it.  The stronghold consitsted of a bastion surrounded by ravelins and ditches.  The combination of dry, high spots and wet ditches are the basis for a characteristic wildlife and plantlife.
